Strength training can alleviate feelings of anxiety, stress, depression and mental disorders. It is not a cure for mental disorders. However, strength training does have a habit of reducing these negative emotions. Consider this example as you begin your fitness journey; you are a university student whose next exam period is on the horizon. As a former university student, I happen to know that these are some of the most stressful times for students. Anxiety and stress are sometimes through the roof, you feel like you are existing rather than living life. Expectations are high and you do not want to let yourself or anyone down. This is how I would typically plan my day during such periods; I would wake up at around 7am, have breakfast and head to the gym. The gym was about 30 minutes away from my house by car. I would make the drive and put in a great workout. I would then proceed to take a quick shower and head back home, where I would start studying. After lunch, I would continue studying, sometimes making a good cup of coffee to give me an added boost.
