As a beginner, you will come across all sorts of equipment and machines at the gym. The first few training sessions can be intimidating and exciting. It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of the initial stages of your new lifestyle, whilst neglecting the basics. This is not to say that you should not be pumped up, excited and motivated to get going and to try out new equipment. In fact, you should. For many, the gym presents an opportunity to escape their busy schedule and unwind, all while getting in better shape. It is not all sunshine and rainbows though. As you are already aware, the gym is a place for intense physical activity, where one has the opportunity to push himself beyond his limits and improve consistently. To do so, one must adopt the correct form and technique for each exercise, and must challenge himself by using moderately challenging weights to perform sets. There is certainly a risk of injury at the gym. Although such risks are inevitable, the scope of this article is to raise awareness on this issue and provide ways through which you may be able to reduce your risk of injury.
