Going to the gym as a beginner may feel like an intimidating experience. After all, the gym is a chaotic and busy environment in which people from all walks of life share a space with a common goal, that of becoming fitter. There are several unwritten (and some written) rules with gym goers must follow and which are embedded in one fundamental notion, respect. Like it or not, the gym is a public place which is easy to access. You may simply fill in a form and become a member, giving you access to the gym during most hours of the day for several months. Many people adopt this lifestyle, meaning that gyms are often crowded, especially during peak hours (usually at around 5pm). Thus, these underlying rules are important to regulate one’s activity at the gym and ensure a pleasurable experience for others.
